Contain Your Fall Plants
There’s still time for some fall planting, even if you’re just considering a container garden. If you plan on using a container it is important to select containers of adequate size for the plants you plan on growing (check with the plant experts in the store for the right size), and make sure the soil is fertile enough. Usually garden soil is a poor choice for container growing. Make your own mix that includes compost, peat, sand, vermiculite, and perlite. These ingredients give the characteristics needed for proper growing: good aeration and drainage, plus good water and nutrient holding capacity.
